You should not hire a photographer just because he or she has won an award. You should like the photographer's body of work, their vision and execution of ideas and emotion along with technical skill. What you will find, however, is that photographers who have won a bunch of awards tend to have the skills and motivation to meet the criteria you will need to complete your job in a creative fashion. I compete not necessarily to win the awards (although that's a cool bonus) but to get the feedback from fellow professionals on how an image might be improved. It's heart wrenching to put your work in front of 4-6 people who tear your images apart. The rewards are much more than winning a ribbon, plaque or piece of crystal, it's the knowledge gained by putting yourself out there. Here's my list......
